ILEA Trained Officers in Airport Security

The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA San Salvador) concluded the course this week on International Air Freight Interdiction, led by instructors from the Office of Customs and Border Patrol of the United States of America (CBP), with 35 law enforcement officers representing Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica and El Salvador.

The main objective of the training was to improve law enforcement officers' operational-level knowledge regarding the detection of illegal activities at airports.

The course focused on practical and field exercises reinforcing techniques related to import and export operations, incident command structure, admission processes, methods of concealment of commercial and passenger goods, smuggling discovery, passenger and baggage processing, pedestrian compliance, document analysis, inspection techniques, officer security, and border patrol operations.

The practical training took place at the Monsignor Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport, where participants were assigned key security posts to learn first-hand about the procedures carried out at point of entry into the country.

ILEA San Salvador authorities are certain knowledge the students acquired in this learning process will yield good results in combating transnational crime, afflicting the participating countries.
