The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA San Salvador) completed a major course on Policing Against Sexual and Gender Violence, benefiting thirty-five law enforcement officials from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Colombia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Uruguay, and El Salvador thanks to the substantial support of the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation for Development (Agencia Chilena de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo, AGCI).
The course covered topics on understanding gender-based violence against women and its various manifestations, including femicide, physical violence, sexual violence, and economic violence, and how law enforcement agents should address this issue when working on a case with a technical and professional approach.
Also, it deepened on the understanding of the social, emotional, and practical barriers that survivors face after an incident of sexual or domestic violence. The course taught a range of practical skills to improve the participants' ability to investigate this scourge, as well as methods to communicate effectively with the victims and other witnesses.
The ILEA San Salvador received from the participating delegations mementos and expressions of friendship and solidarity, as well as words of gratitude. The Academy thanks to the Government of Chile for joining the fight against this crime that affects our countries today.
