The International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA San Salvador), concluded the course on Special Anti-Gang Investigations that was developed over a two-week period by instructors from the National Civil Police of El Salvador (PNC) and the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of El Salvador (FGR).
This training focused on providing law enforcement officers with the tools to facilitate their investigative work in combating gangs and gang-related crimes. In addition, topics such as new trends in communications, their international networks and the proliferation of these terrorist structures in the region were addressed.
The course closed with two important presentations, one of them led by the Minister of Justice and Public Security of El Salvador, Gustavo Villatoro, who spoke about the strategies used by the government to eradicate gang violence in the country and the historic reduction in homicides. Also in attendance was the regional coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Global SMART Program of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Ricardo Gomez Hecht.
The closing ceremony included the participation of Minister Villatoro and the Director of the PNC, Commissioner Mauricio Arriaza, as well as the directors of ILEA San Salvador, the instructors and the 27 officers from Belize, Ecuador, Haiti, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and El Salvador.
